Built in 1933, Jiangwan Stadium was the largest comprehensive stadium in the Far East. In 1983, the Fifth National Games was held in Jiangwan Stadium. It was the first time for the National Games to be held in a stadium which was not located in the capital. In 1956, weightlifter Chen Jingkai set a new weightlifting world record in Shanghai Luwan Stadium.
