The opening ceremony of Shanghai Osaka Calligraphy and Seal Engraving Exhibition opened at Shanghai Museum in 1982. A delegation of Japanese calligraphers headed by Mei Shushi, chairman of the Japanese Academy of Calligraphy and Art and vice chairman of Japan-China Friendship Association, attended the opening ceremony. 35 Chinese and Japanese works were exhibited. The exhibition, jointly sponsored by Shanghai Branch of Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Shanghai Branch of the Calligrapher's Association, Japan-China Friendship Association and Japan Academy of Calligraphy and Art, would end on December 3.
