In 1982, the opening ceremony rehearsal of the 7th Shanghai Games was carried out at Hongkou Stadium. The Games was the largest sports event in Shanghai since the founding of People's Republic of China. Nearly six athletes participated in forty-four competitions. The opening performances included skydiving. stunt performance, dragon dance, senior Tai Chi, children's gymnastics, textile workers’ exercise and girls aerobics.
