This program focuses on the treatment of ascites. Damage to the liver can lead to blockage of the portal vein and elevated blood pressure, which in turn causes blood to seep out of the liver surface. Traditional methods of treating ascites are medications and infusions, but the results are poor. Researchers have developed a new type of ascites transfer valve to reinject the exuded ascites into the chest until the pressure in the chest and abdominal cavity is balanced and the ascites is cured.
