Shanghai Port transports passengers across the nation every day. In 1980, the Shanghai Branch of the Yangtze River Shipping Administration put eight new passenger ships into the fast-track route from Shanghai to Hankou. After more than a year of testing, this route was rated as “advanced passenger route” by the Ministry of Communications.
