In 1982, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and the Overseas Chinese Federation held a symposium on middle- and high-level intellectuals of returned overseas Chinese. More than 400 returned overseas Chinese engineers, researchers, professors, lecturers, attending physicians, writers, painters, musicians and overseas Chinese cadres from various fronts of the city enjoyed a happy get-together to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. Li Guang, deputy director of the United Front Work Department of the Municipal Party Committee, and Dong Haochu, chairman of the Overseas Chinese Federation, pay tribute to the returned overseas intellectuals who work hard in various positions. Some returned overseas Chinese, relatives of nationals living abroad and literary and art workers also performed wonderful cultural programs.
