In 1982, the Japanese Airlines DC8-JL792 jet airliner suddenly malfunctioned on the way from Shanghai to Tokyo. It tried to land at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport , but skidded off the runway during an emergency landing and caused serious damage. Twenty-seven people were injured in various degrees.
