An archaeological excavation team composed of the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Yunnan Provincial Museum carried out in the Lufeng Basin. Through archaeological excavation, scientists discovered a skull fossil of an ancient ape about 78 million years ago. In this program, the fossil of Lufengpithecus ape was studied.
